ALBOROUGH David

AC Ace Bristol 1954.  VPL 442 raced at Aintree three times achieving 2 firsts and a 5th.

 

BAILEY Marshall

1959  The JBW – Maserati was built by Fred Wilkinson for Brian Naylor. The engine used was ex the 1959 Combes-Salvadori Cooper Monaco.  The engine is a prototype 250S / Birdcage engine.  Jack Cordingly raced the car at Aintree supported by his mechanic Billy Grimshaw.  Jack and Billy will be present at Aintree and record that the car knows Aintree having  experience of both Beechers Brook and Nicker Brook.

JBW ran at Aintree 18 July 1959.            14         DNF transmission.

 

BRADBURN Jonathan

AC Ace Bristol 1956.  Raced at Sebring 12 hrs 1957, Jack Fernandez and Dronellers, Argentine GP, imported from USA 1988 and fitted with Bristol engine.

 

CURTIS Stephen

Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica. 1950.  PNX8 was the 1950 Earls Court Motor Show car.  It was shipped to Sweden and raced extensively by Sam Gilberg.  Bought in 1955 by Peter Lindquist and sold 30 years later to Frank Sytner and then to Stephen. Le Mans Replica Frazer Nashes took part at Intree in the 1950s.  More recently the car has been raced at Monaco, Le Mans, The Cento Ore in Modena and is always driven to the circuit on the road in the proper old fashioned way!

 

GILBART-SMITH Brian

AC Ace Bristol 1959.  Originally owned by Barry Filer who promoted Jackie Stewart’s motor racing career.  It was the first car Stewart drove on a race track (Oulton Park).  Raced by Bertie since 1967, 2nd in Le Mans Historic etc.

 

GOLDING Peter

Lagonda V12.  Considered by many to be W.O. Bentley’s finest design (he joined Lagonda in 1935 after his contract with Rolls Royce, following on from their acquistion of his company, expired).  This car is identical to the two cars which the Lagonda board encouraged Bentley to enter in the 1939 Le Mans race.  Rather hastily prepared and running to strict rev limits, they nevertheless came in 3rd and 4th, the intention being to use the race as prepartion for the 1940 race, which, of course, never took place due to a little local unpleasantness.

 

GUYATT John

Jaguar ‘D’ 1957.  Converted to XKSS by the factory and then back to D by Paul Grist.

 

HILL Tony

AC Cobra 1964.  Hill raced at Aintree in Dolomite Sprint and TR8.  He won the British saloon car championship in Dolomite Sprint 1973 and HSCC sports racing championship 1989.  Cobra is ex Chris Browning, rebuilt by Autocraft – much raced.

 

JAYE Peter

Frazer Nash Le Mans Coupe 1954

One of nine cars built to customers’ specifications.  Shown at the 1954 Earls Court Motor Show and raced in club events and hill climbs throughout the ‘50s and early ‘60s.

 

MORRIS Martin

This ERA R4D (?), known as ‘Humphrey’, was pre-Aintree.  It won the Cork GP in 1936 driven by Reggie Tongue, Brooklands in 1939 (Peter Aitken) and had loads of 1st in hill climbs with Ken Wharton.  Douglas Hull continued successfully with the car in 1958/9 and Martin has owned it since 1961 winning 10 Seaman Trophy events at Oulton Park and a Historic Monaco.

 

PEARCY Colin

Frazer Nash Le Mans Mk II. 1953.  This car is one of two narrow body lightweight Mk IIs and was built as a racing car for export to Kenya where it raced from 1953 to 1995.

 

PILKINGTON Richard

Cisitalia D46 1946.  The world’s first production tubular space framed single seater.  These were equipped with largely Fiat mechanical parts and were often seen in the small car support races at Grands Prix.

 

PILKINGTON Trisha

Frazer Nash Sebring 1954  Bristol engine.  This is the second of the 3 Sebring built. It was   a works entry with Tony Brooks in the sports car race at the British GP and in the T.T.  Then used in the Liege-Rome-Liege and Rally Soleil and raced by John Gott.

 

PILKINGTON Tania

Cooper T43  1957.  Originally part of Sopwith’s Equippe Endeavour and raced for that team by Innes Ireland in F2 events.

 

PILKINGTON Erika

Gemini Mk 2 1959. Built to Formula Junior regulations with a BMC engine

 

ROSSI Nick

Jaguar C type 1952.  The car is often faced (French GP support race in 1999) and used for long distance foreign rallies

 

RYLANDS Kirk

HWM 1.  This car was one of two cars built by H.W.M. in 1955.  It was their works car and took on the registration number from their previous works car which was re-registered YPG3.  She ran in the 1956 Mille Miglia and has raced ever since being driven by Duncan Hamilton, George Abecassis, Noel Cunningham-Reid etc.  3.8 litre wet sump Jaguar ‘D’ type engine, ‘C’ type gearbox and de Dion rear suspension.

 

STAMPER Geoff

Triumph TR2 1954.  Entered for LM by Bob Dickson in 1954 – driven there and back on the road.  Part of team to win Dundrod TT Team prize in 1954.

 

STAMPER Tim

Aston Martin DB 2/4 1954.  Similar to Aintree race opening car driven by Earl Howe.

 

WILKIE David

1949 Healey Silverstone number 23 of 54 D types made and  they enjoyed considerable success  particularly in the hands of Mr Brooks before he progressed to F1 cars.

 

WILKIE Stuart

1956 HRG twincam with revolutionery disc brakes , won the Autosport championship in that year. Great potential but too late to save the marque.

 

WILSON Chris

McLaren M1B 1965 Ford engine.  Bruce McLaren’s second car he designed and built in 1965 for Can-Am racing.  This car ran as the Radio One car in 1966 and 1967 with Keith St John driving; also regularly hill climbed in the late 60s.
